Abstract

The role of light diffraction in broad-area lasers exhibiting gain-line splitting due to dynamic Stark effect is analyzed. A semiclassical model shows that even for laser intensities much smaller than that of the dressing field, Autler-Townes splitting is suppressed by means of off-axis laser emission at a suitable angle with respect to the optical axis.
