Abstract
The pyroelectric complex signal generated by a periodically heated ferroelectric liquid crystal film (smectic C* phase) is analysed to simultaneously obtain its thermal diffusivity and effusivity. The heating source is an intensity-modulated laser. The thermal parameters are derived from the frequency behavior of the amplitude or the phase of the signal. This method can be used for the study of different kinds of pyroelectric materials (single crystals, polymers, liquid crystals, ceramics).
