Abstract

Group cohomology techniques are used to derive conditions for a group G to be a local splitting group for G. As a first step the exactness of the inflation-restriction sequence gives a characterisation of factor systems arising in locally operating representations of transitive transformation groups. Some examples and applications of the theory are also given.
