The statistical properties of the multivalley structure of disordered systems and of randomly broken objects have many features in common. For all these problems, if Ws denotes the weight of the sth piece, the authors show that the probability distributions P1(W1) of the largest piece W1, P2(W2) of the second largest piece, and Pi (Y) of Y= Sigma s W2s always have singularities at W1=1/n, W2=1/n and Y=1/n, n=1,2,3,. . .
