The energy spectra of the protons emitted from targets of natura neon and argon when bombarded by 8.5 MeV deuterons have been measured by magnetic analysis and in both cases several levels not previously reported have been observed. The angular distributions of nine proton groups from 20Ne, two groups from 22Ne and eight groups from 40A have been measured In most cases these have been fitted with theoretical stripping curves enabling the spin and parity assignments listed below to be made: 21Ne ground state (isotropic) 0.35 MeV (3/2 or 5/2+), 2.78(1/2+), 4.58(3/2 or 5/2- 4.81(1/2, 3/2-), 5.43(3/2, 5/2+), 5.63(3/2, 5/2+), 5.78(1/2, 3/2-), 6.72(3/2, 5/2-23Ne ground state(3/2, 5/2+), 0.98(1/2+). 41A ground state (5/2, 7/2-), 0.57, 1.39, 2.46, 2.79, 3.01, 3.36, 3.98 (all 1/2, 3/2-)
